7 Things I Wish I Knew When I Was 14
20:57:00Hindsight is a wonderful thing, and whenever I think back to my school years (which are quickly becoming further and further away, but still feel like they were only about 2 years ago), there are so many things that went through my mind that were either the stupidest idea in the world, or from my point of view, everything was the end of the world.
1. NO ONE FROM THE WANTED IS GOING TO FOLLOW YOU BACK ON TWITTER
I seriously thought I had a chance getting one of these dudes to follow me back, when in reality I had no chance, ever. 50 million tweets to them whenever they came online and saying everything under the sun to get their attention. TimeHop reminds me like, every day. And when I finally met them, I FORGOT TO ASK THEM TO FOLLOW ME.
2. YOU CANNOT PULL OFF THE EMO FRINGE
I used to backcomb my hair SO. DAMN. MUCH. I'd get it just right, and then as soon as you walk out the door, all your hard work goes to shit. I didn't even have enough hair to make the fringe in the first place. It was just awful.
3. PENCIL EYELINER + P.E. = NO.
As a very uneducated individual in terms of makeup, a crappy pencil eyeliner wing was my go-to. Big mistake. Almost everyday I would come home with it smudged all over the shop. Not cute.
4. THE COOL KIDS AREN'T ACTUALLY COOL, THEY'RE JUST CHAVS
A common feeling in school seems to be the longing of acceptance into the cool kids squad. They sit in huge groups at lunch time, with their short skirts, on-trend jackets, fake MK bags and massive spider-leg eyelashes, and you just want them to like you. But really, they're usually just a bunch of chavs that sit round the corner from school smoking and acting stupid to get boys attention.
5. BOYS ARE NOT THE BE ALL AND END ALL
I remember being so obsessed with the idea of having a boyfriend, or even getting any form of attention from a boy. But I never wanted to be the centre of attention, I would do anything to blend into the background, and keep the attention away from myself. I was always the one they'd ask out as a joke, get your violin out for me, its quite sad.
6. NO ONE CONTROLS YOU
This one is a biggie for me, I was friends with someone who liked to dictate everything I did, and I ended up feeling trapped and thinking I would have no one. BULLIES ARE PATHETIC PEOPLE WHO DON'T EVEN DESERVE YOUR ATTENTION.
7. THE NUMBER OF FACEBOOK FRIENDS AND LIKES ARE NOT A MEASURE OF YOUR WORTH
Everyone was mostly obsessed with msn in our day, but facebook was the hype too. A lot of people had over 1,000 friends, and I still have nowhere near that. I always wanted so badly to have like 150 likes on a photo like all the other girls, but looking back now, its only because they have a zillion friends that they ever got so many likes. There is nothing wrong with you just because you only get 12 likes.

All so true! Still irritates me that popularity is defined about how many likes you have still... I'm 19 now and still don't have 1000 friends haha! x
ReplyDeleteI have 278! hahahah! xx
DeleteI love this post, Katie! I can relate a lot too. I remember wanting to fit in and have million friend on Facebook, but now I don't give an eff. Those aren't even real friends in the end :)
